  Nike Summer Literacy Academy 2010

Nearly 400 elementary students received additional literacy instruction during the summer as part of the Nike School Innovation Fund (NSIF) Summer Literacy Academy. Completing its fourth year, the Academy is a joint effort of the Hillsboro School District, the Nike School Innovation Fund (NSIF), and the Hillsboro Schools Foundation.

The 2010 NSIF Summer Literacy Academy provided a variety of engaging literacy activities for students – through a combination of large- and small-group instruction. This year the program ran from July 19 - August 12, serving incoming second- and third-graders who received teacher recommendations. Classes were held Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Minter Bridge Elementary School.

  Partnerships

Hillsboro Schools Foundation (HSF) funds innovative grants for classroom projects and programs that enrich students' academic experiences.  Last year, 16 schools in the District received a total of $78,000 in grant funds for teachers to implement innovative opportunities for students that would not have been funded otherwise.

Intel’s Matching Grant Program  rewards the efforts of Intel employees who engage in volunteerism to make our communities a better place to live. Intel donates funds that match the hours volunteered by Intel employees at our schools.

The City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department provides a strong partnership with the district in offering quality after-school programs for our students.

The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce has been a strong supporter of the Hillsboro School District. The Chamber has encouraged and facilitated business involvement in our schools and recognizes educators with the annual Crystal Apple Awards Program.

The Right Brain Initiative - The vision of The Right Brain Initiative is to achieve a measurable impact on learning by integrating the community’s arts and cultural resources into the education of every K-8 student in the region’s school districts. The Initiative is a collaboration among educators, parents, artists, local governments, business leaders, and donors who are working to achieve this vision in an equitable, systemic, and sustainable way. The program is currently at three schools: Free Orchards, Jackson and Lincoln Street.
