Student Store
The Evergreen Parent Club operates the Student Store every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday during both lunch
times. The store offers convenience for the students, in that they can purchase school supplies and healthy
snacks at school. The store also supports the behavior management system in place at Evergreen (BOSS).
Students receive BOSS Bucks for positive behavior, and can redeem them at the Student Store. The store is run
by parent volunteers, and we could use your help! If you would like to work the store on a Tuesday, Thursday,
or Friday from 11:45 am—1:45 pm, or if you have any questions, please let us know. Contact us at: evergreenparentclub@yahoo.com

Homework Tips
- Agree with your child on homework rules — when it must be done, where it should be done, and what will happen if homework is not done.
- Many parents insist that homework be finished before TV can be watched.
- If missing assignments occur, set short-term goals focusing on the ones that are due most immediately, 1-3 assignments at a time. When those are complete, go on to the next ones.
- Set up a place for your child to do homework. Be sure that there is good light and that distractions are limited. Have necessary supplies including paper, pencils and a dictionary available.
- Expect your child to do homework each night. Ask about homework and show that you think doing homework is an important responsibility.
- Try to schedule homework time for when you are at home, so that you can supervise and help your student. If this is not possible, be sure to check on the homework each morning before your child goes to school. Ask them to make a note of any problems that will require your assistance or the assistance of his or her classroom teacher.
- Be sure that your student understands all homework assignments. If they have trouble with an assignment, work an example (not the actual problem) to help.
- Don't do your student's homework for him or her. Instead work with your child and encourage them to complete the work alone.
- Be sure all homework is finished in proper form and in your student's backpack before they go to bed — or before going out the door in the morning. Nothing starts the day off worse than a need to scramble to complete a forgotten assignment or hunt through the house for misplaced homework.
- Keep track of homework assignments and ask to see work that teachers have returned. Pay close attention to teachers' comments and look out for any recurring problems.
- Contact your student's teachers if you don't understand their assignments or if your child has special problems. Also contact his/her teachers if your youngster says they never assign homework!
- Discuss teachers' homework expectations during parent-teacher conferences and ask how much time your child should spend on homework each night.
- Don't forget to praise your child for a job well done when he or she completes the homework and when you see improvement.

District Transfer Process
The Hillsboro School District takes pride in each of its schools and the staff that provides high quality instruction and support to our 20,000+ students every day. Through the boundary change process that began in 2007, we have been able to align our schools into four "feeders" — each of which contains one high school, one middle school and six to seven elementary schools. The feeder structure allows us to better articulate instruction and communicate individual student strengths and needs between levels. We believe students gain the maximum educational benefit when they attend their neighborhood elementary school and continue on to the middle and high schools in their feeder group.
We do understand, however, that there are circumstances under which families may wish to request a transfer of their student from one school to another in our district, or from our district to a neighboring district. In the past, this process has been somewhat open, with transfer requests being accepted on an ongoing basis. In an effort to bring some structure and control to the process and allow our school administrators to focus on the important business of education, the District is rolling out a new transfer process for the 2010-2011 school year and beyond.
Of course there are many other important dates and details you should know and we encourage parents to review the guidelines, which are available at www.hsd.k12.or.us under Parents/Boundaries & Transfers. Additional information will be mailed to the homes of all students currently on transfers.
